Smooth pumping of sticky liquids with Verderair (fragrance fluids)

Pumping sticky fragrance ingredients without stalling valves

Almost all fragrances make people happier all over the world. It is being used in o.a. personal care products and of course in many foods and drinks.
Industrial application of fragrances has become a commodity in most consumer products to create a nice smell.

When manufacturing fragrance ingredients double diaphragm pumps have a tendency of stalling. Fragrance ingredients are often very sticky, which can cause the stalling of the air valve of the diaphragm pump. Especially when pumping these fragrance products it is important that the end result is a smooth a homogeneous mixture.

To investigate the smooth working of a Verderair Air Operated Diaphragm pump at fragrances manufacturing we did a 60-day trial with a Verderair diaphragm pump model 40 (40 mm) for a company in the UK. We selected a Verderair diaphragm pump of stainless steel / teflon in the sewer transfer system. The main feature was the non-sticky, closed center design air valve, which eliminates the stalling, experienced before when pumping sticky fragrances.

After the trial period the company decided to replace the old pump into the Verderair double diaphragm pump, and on top of that ordered 6 Verderair Air Operated Diaphragm pumps, model VA25, for other processing operations.

The company is very satisfied with the performance of the Verderair double diaphragm pump. After 60 full continuous working days no downtime was experienced in the new system. Maintenance mechanics were not interrupted and could continue with other work. Only minimum spare parts are required to insure 100% on-line performance.

Advantages of the Verderair double diaphragm pumps:

  • Easy to install
  • Need no lubrication
  • Restart every time in dead head applications
  • Run dry without damage (try this with a centrifugal pump and the mechanical seal could damage)
  • Have no motors to burn out
  • Have no seals to replace

Other popular applications form the Verderair Air Operated Diaphragm pumps include:

  • Tank filling and draining
  • Drum Pumping
  • Pumping hops and yeast slurries
  • Pumping out sump pits
  • Waste oil evacuation
  • Pumping paints/resins/pigments
  • Pumping emulsions, i.e. latex
